The Lionel Hampton International Jazz Festival at the University of Idaho, held Feb. 25-28, 2009, will pay tribute to world rhythms of jazz and will honor legendary bassist Ray Brown.

Artists slated to perform include Jon Faddis, Bobby McFerrin, Eldar, Kenny Barron, Anthony Wilson, Monty Alexander, Gretchen Parlato, the Lionel Hampton New York Big Band with Joe Locke, and many more.

The festival, which received the National Medal of Arts last fall, is intended to bridge cultures through the common language of music while developing musical leadership abilities of future generations.

“We aim to showcase jazz in a way that captivates both jazz connoisseurs and those new to the genre,” said John Clayton, artistic director. “From the expressive, explosive and seductive sounds of Latin, Brazilian and Caribbean jazz, to the classic sounds of Ray Brown, festival attendees are in for a real treat this year.”

Series ticket sales begin Nov. 17, and individual ticket sales begin Dec. 8.
