Ron Blake’s Third CD for Mack Avenue Released

Tenor saxophonist Ron Blake’s third CD with Mack Avenue, Shayari, was released on Jan. 29. The disc features pianist and producer Michael Cain and guests Jack DeJohnette, Christian McBride, Regina Carter and percussionist Gilmar Gomes in an unplugged trio setting,

“This record is more introspective then earlier projects,” Blake said. “It’s an acoustic collection of trios. Compositionally, it lends itself to some of the ideas introduced on my most recent recording, Sonic Tonic, but in an acoustic setting. I worked with Cain to put this recording together; everything stemmed from us trying to find people to collaborate with to create a distinct, aural setting not unlike Sonic Tonic.”
