Guitarist John Scofield jams with Medeski Martin & Wood for the group’s Out Louder , which is due out on Sept. 26. The disc is the band’s first for its Indirecto Records label.
Much of the disc includes the band’s funky take on free jazz and it will also include a version of Peter Tosh’s reggae anthem, “Legalize It.”
“People connect with grooves and funk, they feel it in their gut,” Medeski said. “You don’t have to play a lot of notes to connect with people. The groove and spirit is what connects with people.”
A drummer’s drummer, Rodney Holmes gigged with everyone from Joe Zawinul and Carlos Santana to Steve Kimock and the Brecker Brothers.
