DownBeat’s 73rd Annual Critics Poll: One for the Record Books

The band Vital Information (Steve Smith, drums; keyboardist Tom Coster; guitarist Frank Gambale; and bassist Baron Browne) is on tour in support of their upcoming CD, Show ‘Em Where You Live, which is scheduled for an April 9 release on Tone Center.
The tour began on March 1 in the San Francisco Bay Area, and is currently on the West Coast. The band then travels to the East Coast, where it tours from Atlanta up to the New England area; it then travels to the Midwest, including Chicago and the surrounding areas.
Saxophonist Bill Evans will sit in with the band as a guest during its four nights at the Los Angeles jazz club Catalina’s Bar and Grill, March 7-10.

James Brandon Lewis earned honors for Artist of the Year and Tenor Saxophonist of the Year. Three of his recordings placed in the Albums of the Year category.
