Western Michigan University Plans Keyboard Residencies

Western Michigan University’s music department is hosting a series of jazz keyboard-based activities on its Kalamazoo, Mich., campus throughout October. These residencies will include performances and master classes.

Fred Hersch will be a resident on campus from Oct. 2–4. Stefon Harris will be at Western Michigan with pianist Xavier Davis on Oct. 5 and 6. Lyle Mays will visit from Oct. 23–25.

    Hammond came to the blues through the folk boom of the late 1950s and early 1960s, which he experienced firsthand in New York’s Greenwich Village.
