Blue Note Re-signs Andrew Hill

Blue Note Records has re-signed Andrew Hill 42 years after the pianist/composer recorded his debut on the label in 1963. Hill’s new quintet recording, Time Lines, was produced by Michael Cuscuna and features trumpeter Charles Tolliver, saxophonist and clarinetist Greg Tardy, bassist John Hebert and drummer Eric McPherson.

Hill first made a name for himself with a series of recordings between 1963-1970 that included such classic sessions as Black Fire, Judgment! and Point Of Departure. Hill returned to Blue Note in 1989 with two albums, Eternal Spirit and But Not Farewell, both of which featured the alto saxophonist Greg Osby. Hill’s new album will be released on Feb. 22, 2006.
