Peterson’s Finest Pablo In A Box

  I

Fantasy Jazz will release a four-disc Oscar Peterson box set on Nov. 4 showcasing studio and live recordings with Pablo from 1953–’86.

Dimensions: A Compendium of the Pablo Years contains 46 tracks produced, with a few exceptions, by Pablo founder and Peterson’s former manager Norman Granz. It features classic groupings including the trio with guitarist Herb Ellis and bassist Ray Brown and the quartet with guitarist Joe Pass, bassist Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen and drummer Martin Drew, as well as all-star jams alongside artists like Coleman Hawkins, Roy Eldridge and Dizzy Gillespie. The tracks are split about halfway between studio work and live performances from all around the world.

The 36-page booklet has descriptions of each disc’s material by Ernie Rideout, Keyboard magazine editor, and a variety of Peterson photos. The whole package lists for $65.
