Casio’s CT-S1000V is a vocal synthesizer that can turn any text, such as song lyrics, into a musical phrase and then “sing” it in full harmony based on any notes played on its keys. Casio has built 100 lyric tones (phrases inspired by familiar songs) into the CT-S1000V; they can be overwritten, and there’s space for 50 more brought in from the Lyric Creator app. The instrument supports both English and Japanese text.
Sher Music has added 10 publications to its Jazz Songbooks series, each featuring 20 songs sourced directly from the composer’s lead sheets. This second series of Jazz Songbooks features the best works of Benny Golson, Randy Brecker, Andy Narell, Steve Khan, Barry Finnerty, Doug Morton, Enrico Pieranunzi, Denny Zeitlin, Larry Dunlap and Dave Tull. Available in digital format with access to audio files for virtually all the songs in the series, Sher’s Jazz Songbooks will give your band a big boost in repertoire, or inspire musicians to spend many hours with them in the woodshed, learning from the masters of jazz composition.
